Chris Hemsworth was born on 11 August 1983 in Melbourne, Australia, as the middle son of Leonie and Craig Hemsworth. He is the brother of Luke Hemsworth and Liam Hemsworth, both of whom are also actors. He graduated from Heathmont Secondary College and later studied acting at the Screenwise Film & TV School in Sydney, Australia, an institution that trains actors using American English.

After appearing in various television series, Chris Hemsworth made his first entry into the cinema world in 2009 with the film Star Trek. In 2004, he moved from Melbourne to Sydney to join the television series Home and Away, where he appeared in 185 episodes. In 2005, his portrayal of Kim Hyde in the series earned him the Logie Award for Best New Male Talent in Australia.
