Rebecca Louisa Ferguson Sundström was born on October 19, 1983, in Stockholm, Sweden. Her father is Swedish, while her mother, Rosemary, is English. Ferguson began her education at the Adolf Fredrik Music School in Stockholm in 1990 and graduated in 1999. Her parents later divorced, and she grew up with three siblings.

From the age of 13, Ferguson worked as a model, appearing in magazines and television commercials for cosmetics, clothing, and jewelry brands. Her early exposure to the camera helped shape her confidence and screen presence before transitioning fully into acting.

Ferguson gained early acting experience in Swedish television and cinema, including roles in series such as Nya tider and Wallander.
