Simon Pegg is an English actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer, internationally recognized for his role as IMF technician Benji Dunn in the Mission: Impossible film series and for redefining modern British comedy through genre-blending films.

Simon John Beckingham was born on February 14, 1970, in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, England, to Gillian Rosemary Smith and John Henry Beckingham. When he was seven years old, his parents divorced. After his mother remarried, he adopted his stepfather’s surname, Pegg. He studied at the University of Bristol, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre studies in 1991.

In 1990, Pegg moved to London and began performing stand-up comedy, quickly establishing himself on the alternative comedy circuit. His breakthrough came with the cult television series Spaced, which he co-created and starred in between 1999 and 2001. The series became a defining work of British television comedy.

Pegg achieved major international recognition with the film Shaun of the Dead, which he co-wrote and starred in alongside Nick Frost. The film marked the beginning of the so-called “Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy,” followed by Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, each blending comedy with genre cinema and earning critical and commercial success.

In 2006, Pegg joined the Mission: Impossible franchise with Mission: Impossible III, directed by J.J. Abrams, starring Tom Cruise. He portrayed Benji Dunn, a role he reprised in subsequent installments including Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. His character evolved from comic relief into a core member of the IMF team.

Parallel to this success, Pegg became part of the rebooted Star Trek film franchise, portraying engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott in Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond, working alongside Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and Karl Urban.

Pegg married Maureen Pegg on July 23, 2005. The couple has one daughter, Matilda Pegg, born in 2009.

In 2023, Pegg appeared in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, starring Tom Cruise with Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, and Pom Klementieff.
