Story Overview

Doctor Sleep is a sequel to The Shining, the iconic 1980 film adapted from the novel by Stephen King. Nearly three decades have passed since the horrifying events at the Overlook Hotel, and the world has changed in many ways. Once the traumatized child at the heart of The Shining, Danny Torrance is now an adult man, still haunted by the supernatural scars of his past. The legendary Overlook Hotel once again stands at the center of the story, serving as a powerful symbol of unresolved terror.

The traumatic experiences Danny endured at the Overlook Hotel continue to shape his life decades later. Struggling with addiction and inner demons, Dan Torrance searches for peace but finds himself unable to escape his past. His path changes when he meets Abra, a young girl whose psychic “shine” is stronger than anything he has ever encountered. Drawn back into the world he tried to leave behind, Dan must confront his deepest fears to protect Abra and face a battle that unfolds between life and death.

Starring Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and Kyliegh Curran, the film is written and directed by Mike Flanagan, inspired by the novel of the same name by Stephen King. Blending psychological horror with emotional depth, the film expands the mythology of The Shining while standing firmly on its own.

The supporting cast includes Carl Lumbly, Zahn McClarnon, Emily Alyn Lind, Bruce Greenwood, Jocelin Donahue, Alex Essoe and Cliff Curtis. The film is produced by Trevor Macy and Jon Berg, with executive producers Roy Lee, Scott Lumpkin, Akiva Goldsman and Kevin McCormick.
