Amy Adams was born on August 20, 1974, in Vicenza, Italy, as the daughter of American parents Kathryn Adams and Richard Adams. She is one of seven siblings and has a brother named Eddie Adams. Around the age of eight, her family moved to Colorado in the United States. She attended Douglas County High School.

Initially aspiring to become a ballerina, Amy Adams also sang in her school choir. As her hopes of pursuing ballet professionally faded, she decided to focus on musical theater. In the following years, she worked various jobs, including waitressing, while continuing to sing at the venues where she worked.

Between 2000 and 2002, she appeared in supporting roles in television series and TV films. Her major breakthrough came in 2002 with Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can, where she portrayed Brenda Strong. Her film career officially began earlier with the comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999).

In 2005, Amy Adams received her first Academy Award nomination for her performance in Junebug. She gained widespread popularity in 2007 with Walt Disney’s Enchanted, starring alongside Patrick Dempsey, Susan Sarandon, James Marsden, and Idina Menzel. The role earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Musical or Comedy.

In 2008, she starred opposite Emily Blunt in Sunshine Cleaning, and later that year appeared in Doubt, adapted from John Patrick Shanley’s play, alongside Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Her performance earned her another Academy Award nomination.
