Story Overview

American Hustle is a stylish crime drama inspired by real events that took place in the turbulent atmosphere of the 1970s. The film centers on master con artist Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) and his clever, ambitious partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams), who have perfected the art of manipulation and deception.

Their carefully constructed world collapses when they are caught by Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper), a young and highly driven FBI agent eager to prove himself. Faced with prison sentences, Irving and Sydney are given a single way out: they must cooperate with the FBI and use their skills to expose other high-level criminals operating under polished façades.

Under the supervision of DiMaso and his superiors, an elaborate sting operation is devised. The plan involves creating the illusion of a powerful Arab sheikh willing to invest millions, luring corrupt politicians and influential figures into a web of bribery and fraud centered in Atlantic City, a glamorous hub of casinos and excess.

What initially appears to be a brilliantly controlled and almost harmless con gradually spirals into something far more dangerous. As egos grow, loyalties blur, and ambitions clash, the operation threatens to collapse under its own weight, forcing each character to confront the cost of deception, identity, and survival in a world built entirely on lies.
