Jessica Chastain, born Jessica Michelle Chastain, is an American actress and producer known for her performances in critically acclaimed dramatic films as well as major studio productions. She is widely recognized for her role in Zero Dark Thirty and her work in high-profile films such as Interstellar and The Martian.

Jessica Chastain was born on March 24, 1977, in Sacramento, California, United States, as the daughter of Edward Michael Monasterio and Jerri Renee Chastain. Her parents later divorced. She pursued acting after years of dedication to performance and education, gradually building her career through television roles.

Until 2008, Jessica Chastain appeared primarily in television series. Her transition to cinema came with her first leading role in the feature film Jolene, which marked her breakthrough into film acting.

In 2012, she starred in the controversial military thriller Zero Dark Thirty, portraying CIA analyst Maya. Her performance earned her the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Drama.
