Tom Hardy was born on September 15, 1977, in Hammersmith, London, England, as the son of a painter mother and a writer father. His full name is Edward Thomas Hardy. His mother is Elizabeth Anne Barrett and his father is Edward Hardy. He grew up in London and received theater training at a young age. He studied at Tower House School and later at the Richmond Drama School, while also working as a model.
At the age of 21, in 1998, he won the competition Find Me A Supermodel. While working at a prestigious Theatre Centre in London, he appeared as a guest actor in Episode 2 of the TV miniseries Band of Brothers, directed by Ridley Scott, in 2001. After this experience, he left theater and turned his focus to cinema.
In 2001, he made his film debut with Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott, starring Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Ioan Gruffudd, Sam Shepard, and William Fichtner. In 2002, his role as Shinzon in Star Trek: Nemesis earned him a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Also in 2015, he appeared opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant, a role that earned him an Academy Award nomination. In 2017, he appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and later gained global recognition for portraying Eddie Brock in Venom.
In 2020, after multiple delays and a title change, he portrayed notorious mob boss Al Capone in the film Capone.
