Stellan Skarsgård was born on June 13, 1951, in Gothenburg, Sweden, as the son of Gudrun and Jan Skarsgård. His full name is Stellan John Skarsgård. Despite frequently moving between many cities across Sweden during his childhood, his strong interest in acting led him to take part in numerous productions from an early age. He appeared in both television films and feature films, and from the 1990s onward, his reputation began to extend beyond Sweden, establishing him as an internationally recognized actor.



In 1996, Skarsgård appeared in Breaking the Waves, directed by Lars von Trier, a role that marked a significant turning point in his career. He went on to collaborate with the Danish director on several subsequent films. In 1997, he gained widespread recognition in Hollywood for his performance as Professor Gerald Lambeau in Good Will Hunting, directed by Gus Van Sant. In this film, he starred alongside Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Minnie Driver, Ben Affleck, and Casey Affleck.

Skarsgård is also well known for portraying Bootstrap Bill Turner, the pirate father of Orlando Bloom’s character, in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007). In these films, he appeared alongside Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, Mackenzie Crook, and Jonathan Pryce.

In 2011, Skarsgård appeared in Thor, sharing the screen with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, and Samuel L. Jackson. He later reprised his role as Erik Selvig in several films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marriages:
1) He married physician and actress My Sonja Marie Agnes on April 27, 1975, and the couple divorced on May 1, 2007. They have six children: Alexander Skarsgard, Gustaf Skarsgård, Sam Skarsgård, Bill Skarsgård, Eija Skarsgård, and Valter Skarsgård.
2) He married film producer Megan Everett on January 12, 2009. They have two children: Ossian Skarsgård (born 2009) and Kolbjörn Skarsgård (born 2012).
