Story Overview

Gangsters on the run, Grace (Nicole Kidman) seeks refuge in a remote and seemingly peaceful town called Dogville. With the encouragement of the town’s self-appointed moral guide Tom (Paul Bettany), the residents agree to hide Grace and offer her protection. In return, she is asked to contribute small tasks to the community, gestures that initially appear harmless and fair.

As time passes, Grace earns the trust and affection of the townspeople. However, the favors demanded of her gradually intensify, and goodwill slowly turns into exploitation. What once seemed like collective kindness begins to reveal a darker structure rooted in control, hypocrisy, and moral relativism.

Behind Grace’s quiet obedience lies a carefully concealed secret. When the truth finally surfaces, Dogville’s inhabitants are forced to confront the consequences of their actions. The film transforms into a stark moral parable, questioning justice, power, and the fragile boundary between compassion and cruelty.
