Rami Malek is an American actor best known for portraying the antisocial young computer hacker Elliot Alderson in the television series Mr. Robot, a role that brought him international recognition.
Rami Malek, whose full name is Rami Said Malek, was born on May 12, 1981, in Los Angeles, California. He has an identical twin brother named Sami Malek, born four minutes after him, and an older sister named Yasmine Malek. His mother’s name is Nelly Malek. Malek comes from an Egyptian Coptic family. He attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2003 from the University of Evansville in Indiana.
Rami Malek began his acting career in 2004 with a role in the television series Gilmore Girls. He later appeared in the Night at the Museum film series, sharing the screen with Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, and Ben Stiller. In the trilogy, he portrayed the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Ahkmenrah.
Continuing his association with Egyptian characters, Rami Malek also played an Egyptian vampire in The Twilight Saga. His career reached a major turning point in 2015 when he starred alongside Christian Slater in the television series Mr. Robot, portraying Elliot Alderson, an introverted and socially isolated hacker. The series ran from 2015 to 2019 and established Malek as one of the most distinctive actors of his generation.
In 2018, Rami Malek starred as legendary musician Freddie Mercury in the biographical film Bohemian Rhapsody, which tells the story of the iconic rock band Queen. His performance received widespread acclaim and marked a defining moment in his career.
On February 10, 2019, at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards ceremony held in London, Rami Malek won the award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
