Dwayne Douglas Johnson is an American film actor and professional wrestler, widely known by his wrestling nickname “The Rock.” He was born on May 2, 1972, in California, United States. His mother is Ata Johnson and his father is Rocky Johnson, who was also a professional wrestler. Due to his father’s wrestling career, which required constant travel from city to city, Dwayne Douglas Johnson spent a significant part of his childhood in New Zealand. After his father retired from wrestling, the family returned to the United States.

During his high school years in Miami, Dwayne Douglas Johnson became involved in American football. In 1991, he played as a defensive player for the Miami Hurricanes’ main team. In 1992, he met his future wife Dany Garcia in Miami. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1995 with a degree in Psychology. After graduation, he focused seriously on his American football career, playing in Canada and for various clubs. However, after suffering an injury, he was forced to quit professional football.

Following this setback, Dwayne Douglas Johnson turned to professional wrestling, a family tradition in which many of his relatives were involved. Although several family members helped train him, the person who truly shaped him as a wrestler was his father. Standing 1.96 meters tall, Johnson began his wrestling career in the United States Wrestling Association (USWA) and later spent the majority of his career in WWE, an entertainment sports company founded in the United States in 1952.

Dwayne Douglas Johnson quickly achieved major success in wrestling. He signed with the USWA federation run by Jerry Lawler and wrestled under the ring name Flex Kavana. In the summer of 1996, he won the USWA World Tag Team Championship twice with Bart Sawyer. In 1997, he joined WWE. By 2001, he became the first wrestler to win the WWE Championship six times, eventually becoming a total of 16-time champion. He is regarded as one of the most famous stars ever created by WWE, alongside Hulk Hogan (real name Terry Gene Bollea), and one of the few wrestlers recognized even by non-wrestling audiences.

Before adopting the name “The Rock,” Dwayne Douglas Johnson competed under ring names such as “Rocky Maivia” and “The Blue Chipper.” After defeating Triple H on February 13, 1997, to win the Intercontinental Championship for the first time, he began using the name “The Rock” from March 1997 onward.

As he increasingly focused on Hollywood, Dwayne Douglas Johnson gradually stepped away from wrestling after 2002. In 2004, he officially announced the end of his WWE contract and devoted himself fully to his film career. He returned briefly to the ring in 2011 for a match against John Cena, followed by another match on March 29, 2013, which he lost. After this match, he officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling.

Dwayne Douglas Johnson began his film career in 1999 with the movie Beyond the Mat. His performance attracted producers’ attention, leading to major roles in films such as The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King, which significantly boosted his popularity. He went on to appear in many successful films. In 2011, he starred alongside Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in Fast Five. In 2013, he appeared with Mark Wahlberg in Pain & Gain.

Living in Los Angeles, Dwayne Douglas Johnson is close friends with actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hugh Jackman, the star of the X-Men franchise. In 2017, he starred in Baywatch alongside Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, Kelly Rohrbach, and Alexandra Daddario.

Dwayne Douglas Johnson married Dany Garcia on May 3, 1997. They have a daughter named Simone Alexandra, born on August 14, 2001. The couple divorced on June 1, 2007. Since 2007, he has been in a relationship with singer Lauren Hashian. In 2017, he announced that he was considering running as a candidate in the 2020 United States presidential elections.
