Jason Statham is an English film actor who rose to prominence with the films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Crank, and The Transporter. Born on September 12, 1972, in Sydenham, London, he was introduced to street theater at an early age due to his family’s profession. Although he showed interest in music and theater, Statham was guided toward sports at a young age, focusing particularly on martial arts and diving. As a member of the British national diving team, he competed internationally and achieved a world ranking as high as 12th.

In 1998, while working as a model for the clothing brand French Connection, Statham met English director Guy Ritchie. Ritchie was searching for an actor to play a streetwise character in his upcoming film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Having sold counterfeit goods on the streets in his youth to make money, Statham fit the role perfectly. His portrayal of the character Bacon brought both box-office success and critical acclaim, marking the beginning of his acting career.

In 2000, he appeared in another Guy Ritchie film, Snatch, sharing the screen with Brad Pitt and Benicio Del Toro. He played the character Turkish, a role that was highly praised by audiences. The film grossed approximately $80 million worldwide, further strengthening Statham’s position in the industry.

In 2001, Statham acted in Ghosts of Mars. He declined the lead role in Dog Soldiers in order to take part in this project, which unfortunately did not meet box-office expectations. That same year, he starred alongside Jet Li in The One, portraying the character Agent Evan Funsch.

In 2002, he landed the leading role of Frank Martin in The Transporter. This film gave Statham the opportunity to fully showcase his martial arts training and physical abilities. Its success led to sequels, with Transporter 2 released in 2005 and Transporter 3 in 2008.

He continued his career with roles in The Italian Job (2003), Cellular (2004), and the lead role in Crank (2006), which later received a sequel in 2009. By this period, Statham had established a loyal fan base, and his films consistently performed well at the box office. In 2005, he collaborated with Guy Ritchie for the third time in Revolver. Despite being considered a film from Ritchie’s mature period, it remained in the shadow of the director’s earlier works in terms of both critical and commercial reception.

Statham is known for performing most of his own stunts, particularly in the action and fight scenes of the Crank and Transporter series, as well as the driving sequences in The Italian Job. One of the few actors in Hollywood who rarely uses stunt doubles, he explained this choice by stating that he trusts himself in car chases and fight scenes because such situations reflect real-life experiences he has had.

By 2008, critics such as Armond White began to describe his work as examples of a new, dynamic form of pop-art cinema. That same year, his performances in Death Race and Transporter 3 reinforced this critical recognition.

Statham later portrayed the character Jasper in 13, appeared for the third time alongside Jet Li, and joined an ensemble cast including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone in The Expendables. He subsequently starred in Blitz, further solidifying his reputation as a leading action star.

From 1997 to 2004, Statham was in a relationship with model Kelly Brook. The relationship ended after Brook met Billy Zane on a film set. Since April 2010, Statham has been in a relationship with model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and the couple announced their engagement on January 10, 2016.
