Queen of the Desert (2015)
Official Trailer
Plot Summary
Queen of the Desert is inspired by the real-life journeys of the adventurous British traveler and writer Gertrude Bell, portrayed by Nicole Kidman. The film explores her emotional life, romantic entanglements, and relentless desire to experience the world beyond the familiar borders of her homeland.
Driven by curiosity and an unyielding spirit, Gertrude Bell seeks a life beyond England, accepting a post at the British embassy in Tehran. There, she falls deeply in love with embassy secretary Henry Cadogan (James Franco). This intense yet ill-fated romance becomes the emotional catalyst for a lifelong journey filled with discovery, loss, and self-definition.
As her travels continue across the Middle East, her path crosses with legendary historical figures such as T.E. Lawrence, widely known as Lawrence of Arabia, portrayed by Robert Pattinson, and Ottoman general Charles Doughty-Wylie (Damian Lewis). Moving through territories shaped by empire, politics, and conflict, Gertrude Bell emerges as a determined woman navigating love, power, and identity within the vast landscapes of the Ottoman Empire.
