Story Overview

Out of the Furnace is set in a struggling Rust Belt town where economic decline has drained hope from everyday life. Russell Baze (Christian Bale) and his younger brother Rodney dream of escaping their bleak surroundings and building a better future, but circumstances steadily conspire against them. A single mistake sends Russell to prison, derailing his plans and leaving his brother to fend for himself.

While Russell is incarcerated, Rodney becomes entangled with one of the region’s most ruthless and violent criminal networks. Drawn into underground bare-knuckle fighting and illegal operations, Rodney’s desperate attempt to survive and earn money ultimately leads to his tragic death, shattering what remains of Russell’s family.

Upon his release from prison, Russell returns to a town unchanged by time, burdened by grief and rage. Faced with the knowledge of who is responsible for his brother’s fate, he is forced into a moral crossroads—between reclaiming his own hard-won freedom and seeking vengeance against those who destroyed his family.
