Kyriakos Mitsotakis was born on March 4, 1968, in Athens, Greece. His full name is Kyriakos Alec Mitsotakis. He is the son of former Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitsotakis. He graduated from Athens College in 1986 and later studied at Harvard University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies, followed by a Master’s degree from Stanford University.



After graduating from Harvard University, Kyriakos Mitsotakis worked for major financial companies, gaining professional experience in the private sector before fully entering politics.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis comes from a prominent political family. His sister, Dora Bakoyannis, previously served as Greece’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. His nephew, Kostas Bakoyannis, was elected Mayor of Athens in recent local elections.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2004 representing the New Democracy party. Between June 24, 2013, and January 27, 2015, he served as Minister for Administrative Reform.

On January 11, 2016, Kyriakos Mitsotakis was elected leader of New Democracy and became the leader of the main opposition party.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis married Mareva Grabowski in 1997. The couple has three children: Sofia Mitsotaki, Dafni Mitsotakis, and Konstantinos Mitsotakis.

In the general election held on July 7, 2019, Kyriakos Mitsotakis won a decisive victory, finishing 11.5 percentage points ahead of the incumbent Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, and was elected Prime Minister of Greece.

The Mitsotakis family also has a notable historical connection to Turkey. During the rule of the Greek military junta (1967–1974), Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s father, Konstantinos Mitsotakis, went into exile in Paris via Turkey with the assistance of then Turkish Foreign Minister İhsan Sabri Çağlayangil.

The New Democracy party, led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, won the Greek general election held on May 21, 2023, receiving 40.81 percent of the vote. The Radical Left Coalition – Progressive Alliance (SYRIZA), led by Alexis Tsipras, finished second with 20.06 percent.
