Deception (2008)

Official Trailer

Plot Summary

Set in New York, Deception follows Jonathan McQuarry (Ewan McGregor), a socially isolated and overworked stockbroker whose life is defined entirely by routine and professional obligation. Jonathan’s monotonous existence leaves no room for pleasure, spontaneity, or human connection—until a chance encounter changes everything.

Jonathan meets the charismatic and dangerously persuasive lawyer Wyatt Bose (Hugh Jackman), a man who introduces him to a hidden world beneath the polished surface of Manhattan’s financial elite. Beyond the boardrooms and tailored suits lies a secret playground where power, wealth, and desire intersect in morally corrosive ways.

Through Wyatt, Jonathan is drawn into an exclusive underground circle known simply as “The List,” a clandestine network catering to the darkest appetites of Wall Street’s most influential figures. A single phone call—“Are you free tonight?”—is all it takes to gain access to a night of forbidden indulgence.

As Jonathan descends deeper into this seductive parallel world, he becomes involved with a mysterious woman known only as “S.” (Michelle Williams). What begins as an intoxicating affair soon spirals into a dangerous web of betrayal, manipulation, and murder, forcing Jonathan to confront how easily identity, morality, and control can be stripped away.

Blending erotic tension with psychological suspense, Deception explores the fragile boundary between desire and destruction, exposing the cost of curiosity in a world where power is the ultimate currency.
