Kevin Bacon was born on July 8, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, as the son of Ruth Hilda and Edmund Norwood Bacon. His full name is Kevin Norwood Bacon. He received acting education at the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts, Manning Street Actors Theatre, and the Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York’s Greenwich Village. He also studied at Bucknell University on a full scholarship. Determined to become an actor, Bacon spent four years attending auditions in the mornings while working as a restaurant waiter in the evenings.



Kevin Bacon began his professional acting career in 1978. The film that brought him widespread fame was the 1984 musical drama Footloose. His performance in this film earned him a large fan base and established him as a leading actor of the decade. During the 1980s, he also appeared in horror films such as Friday the 13th. In 1991, he played a notable role in Oliver Stone’s JFK, a performance that helped solidify his status as a sought-after actor in Hollywood.

In 1990, he appeared in Flatliners alongside Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Hope Davis, and Oliver Platt. In 1992, he portrayed Navy prosecutor Lt. Cmdr. Jack Ross in A Few Good Men, sharing the screen with Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, and Kiefer Sutherland. In 1994, he starred opposite Meryl Streep in The River Wild. Continuing his path as a character actor, Bacon delivered a strong performance with Christian Slater in the historical drama Murder in the First (1995).

In 1994, Kevin Bacon formed the music group The Bacon Brothers together with his brother Michael Bacon. Following the releases of Forosoco and Getting There, the Bacon Brothers gained attention in the United States for their self-written, lyrical compositions.

On September 4, 1988, Kevin Bacon married actress Kyra Sedgwick. The couple has two children, Travis Bacon (born 1989) and Sosie Bacon (born 1992). He lives in New York with his wife and children.

In 2000, Kevin Bacon starred in Hollow Man, portraying the character Sebastian Caine, alongside Rhona Mitra, Josh Brolin, Elisabeth Shue, and Greg Grunberg. In 2016, he appeared in Patriots Day, sharing the screen with Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, J.K. Simmons, and Michelle Monaghan.
