Emma Stone was born on November 6, 1988, in Scottsdale, Arizona, United States, as the daughter of Krista Yeager and Jeff Stone. She has a younger brother named Spencer Stone (born 1990), who is also an actor. At the age of 11, she had her first stage experience at the Valley Youth Theatre, a regional theater in Phoenix, Arizona, where she performed in the play The Wind in the Willows. After completing Sequoya Elementary School, she attended Cocopah Middle School. During these years, she appeared in 16 different productions at the Valley Youth Theatre. She later enrolled at Xavier College Preparatory for high school.



After her first year of high school, she convinced her family that she wanted to pursue acting professionally. In 2003, at the age of 15, she dropped out of high school and moved to Los Angeles with her mother. She prepared for auditions from home. In 2004, she was cast in the television series The New Partridge Family, marking the beginning of her television career. She later appeared in TV series such as Medium, Malcolm in the Middle, and Lucky Louie.

Her rise to prominence was supported by her roles in critically acclaimed films such as Zombieland, Superbad, and Easy A. She starred alongside Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, and Ryan Gosling in the romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. She also joined the new cast of the fourth installment of the Spider-Man franchise, where Andrew Garfield portrayed Peter Parker and Sally Field played Aunt May.

In 2009, she moved from Los Angeles to the Greenwich Village area of Lower Manhattan in New York City. Emma Stone was in a relationship with actor Andrew Garfield beginning in 2011; the couple separated in 2015.
