The Nice Guys (2016)

Official Trailer

Plot Summary

The Nice Guys is a sharp and stylish neo-noir crime comedy set in the smog-filled backdrop of 1970s Los Angeles, where corruption, greed, and absurd coincidences collide. The story follows two utterly incompatible private investigators forced into an uneasy partnership while investigating the mysterious disappearance of a young woman.

Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) is a tough, no-nonsense enforcer who solves problems with his fists, while Holland March (Ryan Gosling) is a clumsy, alcoholic private eye whose confidence far exceeds his actual competence. When their separate investigations unexpectedly overlap, the two men realize they are chasing different pieces of the same dangerous puzzle.

As the case deepens, Healy and March uncover a conspiracy involving the adult film industry, powerful corporations, and high-level political corruption. Each clue drags them further into a world populated by ruthless hitmen, shadowy bureaucrats, and moral decay, turning a simple missing-person case into a lethal game of survival.

Balancing razor-sharp dialogue with physical comedy and violent confrontations, the film thrives on the chaotic chemistry between its leads. Beneath its humor and retro aesthetic, The Nice Guys delivers a cynical yet entertaining commentary on justice, loyalty, and the blurred line between heroism and incompetence in a deeply corrupt society.
