Story Overview

Once celebrated as a symbol of hope, Hancock (Will Smith) is a powerful yet deeply troubled superhero whose reckless behavior has turned public admiration into widespread resentment. Although he saves lives, the collateral damage he leaves behind causes cities to crumble and citizens to question whether they need him at all. As a result, Hancock becomes one of the most disliked heroes in the world.

Aware that his public image is in ruins, Hancock reluctantly agrees to work with public relations expert Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), who believes the fallen hero can be redeemed. Through carefully staged rescues and a period of self-imposed imprisonment, Hancock attempts to rebuild trust and redefine what it truly means to be a hero in the eyes of society.

As Hancock struggles with loneliness, identity, and the burden of his powers, unexpected truths about his past begin to surface—especially after meeting Ray’s enigmatic wife Mary (Charlize Theron). Blending explosive action with sharp humor and emotional depth, Hancock delivers a fresh and unconventional take on the superhero genre, exploring fame, responsibility, and the cost of redemption.
