Story Overview

Set almost entirely at 37,000 feet, Flightplan is a tightly constructed psychological thriller that turns a confined space into a battlefield of perception, grief, and paranoia. The story follows Kyle Pratt (Jodie Foster), an aviation engineer traveling on a state-of-the-art aircraft with her six-year-old daughter, Julia.

Midway through the transatlantic flight, Julia disappears without a trace. What begins as a frantic search quickly takes a disturbing turn when the crew and passengers insist that the child was never on board. Official records, passenger manifests, and even surveillance data appear to contradict Kyle’s reality, pushing her into isolation.

As doubt spreads and authority figures question her sanity, Kyle finds herself trapped in a terrifying psychological maze. Haunted by recent personal trauma and surrounded by strangers who no longer believe her, she must rely solely on her intelligence and technical knowledge to uncover the truth.

Balancing suspense with emotional intensity, Flightplan explores themes of maternal instinct, gaslighting, and the fragility of truth under pressure. The film steadily escalates toward a revelation that challenges both the audience’s assumptions and Kyle’s perception of reality, transforming a routine flight into a high-altitude nightmare.
