Casanova (2005)
Official Trailer
Plot Summary
Casanova (2005) is set in 1700s Venice, a city defined by masked intrigues, rigid social codes, and secret passions. At the heart of the story stands the era’s most notorious lover, the legendary adventurer Giacomo Casanova (Heath Ledger), whose reputation for seduction has turned him into both a myth and a scandal.
Casanova’s carefully constructed world begins to unravel when he encounters Francesca Bruni (Sienna Miller), a brilliant and independent writer who refuses to be dazzled by his fame or charms. Unlike every woman before her, Francesca challenges Casanova’s carefully rehearsed persona, demanding not just passion, but absolute loyalty and emotional honesty.
For the first time in his life, Casanova finds himself genuinely in love and determined to become the romantic ideal Francesca seeks. Yet as he attempts to win her heart, his past exploits return to haunt him. The Catholic Church, having branded him history’s greatest sinner, dispatches its agents to capture him. One mistake could condemn Casanova to a lifetime in the darkest dungeons of Venice.
Balancing wit, romance, and political tension, Casanova explores the limits of desire, the price of freedom, and the rare courage it takes to abandon legend for true love.
