Apollo 13 (1995)

Official Trailer

Plot Summary

Based on the true events of the Apollo 13 space mission, Apollo 13 delivers a tense, realistic, and emotionally grounded depiction of one of NASA’s most critical moments. Set in the 1970s, the film chronicles how a routine space mission abruptly turns into a desperate fight for survival when an oxygen tank explodes midway to the Moon.

Astronaut Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), alongside Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon) and Fred Haise (Bill Paxton), finds himself stranded in space with rapidly dwindling power, oxygen, and water. With the spacecraft severely damaged, the crew must abandon their original mission and focus solely on returning home alive.

As freezing temperatures and suffocation become imminent threats, the astronauts carefully ration their remaining resources while engineers on Earth race against time to devise improvised solutions. Inside NASA’s Houston command center, mission controllers face the terrifying possibility that the crippled spacecraft may disintegrate during re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere.

Blending technical precision with human drama, Apollo 13 is a gripping testament to ingenuity, teamwork, and resilience under extreme pressure. The film captures not only the physical dangers of space travel but also the psychological endurance required when survival depends on flawless cooperation between those in orbit and those on the ground.
