Catherine Zeta-Jones was born on 25 September 1969 in a fishing village in Wales, United Kingdom. She has two older brothers. At the age of four, she began singing and dancing at events organized by the Catholic Church, quickly standing out as a talented child performer. By the age of eleven, she was already appearing on stage, and after initially taking part in small-scale productions, she gained her first major experience at thirteen by performing in the West End musical Bugsy Malone.
At sixteen, she landed a leading role in David Merrick’s stage production 42nd Street. Although she appeared mainly in television series during her early career, her growing talent soon attracted wider attention. In 1990, following her role in Philip de Broca’s film Scheherazade, she transitioned back to television and starred the same year in the nostalgic British TV series The Darling Buds of May.
After moving to Hollywood, she secured a recurring role in the ABC series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles in 1992. That same year, she appeared alongside Marlon Brando in Christopher Columbus: The Discovery. Her film career continued with roles opposite Billy Zane in The Phantom (1996), further strengthening her international profile.
Her breakthrough came when acclaimed director-producer Steven Spielberg noticed her talent. She achieved her first major success in 1998 starring alongside Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins in The Mask of Zorro. She then shared the lead role with Sean Connery in Entrapment, cementing her status as a Hollywood star.
In 2009, she starred with Justin Bartha in the romantic comedy The Rebound, parts of which were filmed in Turkey, where actress Saadet Aksoy appeared in a supporting role. In 2011, she publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and received treatment for the condition, also known as manic depression.
Catherine Zeta-Jones married actor Michael Douglas on 18 November 2000. The couple announced a separation in 2013 but later reconciled. They have two children: Dylan Michael Douglas (born 8 August 2000) and Carys Zeta Douglas (born 20 April 2003).
