Still Alice (2015)
Official Trailer
Plot Summary
Still Alice tells the deeply moving story of Alice Howland, a renowned linguistics professor at Columbia University whose intellectually vibrant life is abruptly disrupted when she is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
As the illness gradually begins to erode her memory and cognitive abilities, Alice is forced to confront a reality she initially refuses to accept. A woman who has spent her entire life mastering language and acquiring knowledge, she struggles to reconcile her condition with her sense of identity and independence.
While navigating the emotional and psychological impact of Alzheimer’s, Alice reassesses her relationships with her husband and three children. In particular, she fights to reconnect with her youngest daughter, attempting to rebuild a fragile bond that had long been strained.
When Alice begins to lose her way on the familiar streets of Manhattan, the gravity of her condition becomes impossible to deny. Determined not to surrender to the disease, she searches for ways to cope with Alzheimer’s while holding on to her dignity, intellect, and sense of self.
Still Alice offers a powerful and intimate portrayal of memory, identity, and family, presenting Alzheimer’s not only as a medical condition, but as a profound human experience that reshapes every relationship it touches.
