Plot Summary

A sadistic serial killer known as Buffalo Bill is abducting and murdering young women across the American Midwest. In a desperate effort to understand the psychological patterns behind the crimes, the FBI assigns young trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) to interview a brilliant but dangerously unstable inmate.

That inmate is the imprisoned psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a man of extraordinary intellect and chilling brutality whose appetite extends beyond the metaphorical. Lecter agrees to help Clarice only on one condition: she must reveal the most intimate and painful details of her own past in return for his insight.

As their disturbing psychological duel deepens, Clarice is forced to confront both her inner fears and the monstrous mind of a killer who manipulates as masterfully as he murders. This twisted alliance does more than guide the investigation—it pulls Clarice toward a confrontation with pure evil, where courage and strength may no longer be enough to stop the rebirth of the devil himself.
