Story Overview

Based on a true story, Goodfellas chronicles the rise and fall of Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), a small-time gangster who grows up idolizing the power and glamour of organized crime. Drawn into the world of the mafia at a young age, Henry becomes closely associated with two ambitious and dangerous criminals: the calculating Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro) and the volatile, unpredictable Tommy De Vito (Joe Pesci).

Together, the trio take part in a series of increasingly daring criminal operations, culminating in a major heist that promises wealth and prestige. However, while Jimmy and Tommy see the robbery as a stepping stone to greater power within the mafia hierarchy, Henry’s position becomes increasingly fragile. In their ruthless pursuit of dominance, Jimmy and Tommy eliminate everyone involved in the job—except Henry—marking a turning point that exposes the brutal reality behind the illusion of loyalty.

As paranoia, violence, and betrayal consume the criminal underworld, Henry’s life spirals out of control. Torn between ambition, fear, and survival, he is forced to confront the consequences of the choices that once seemed so glamorous. With its raw realism and relentless pacing, Goodfellas offers a definitive portrait of organized crime, stripping away myth to reveal a world driven by greed, instability, and inevitable downfall.
