Story Overview

Eyes Wide Shut is an erotic psychological drama that follows the unsettling journey of a successful Manhattan doctor whose sense of reality is shaken when his wife confesses that she once seriously considered infidelity. Portrayed by Tom Cruise, the doctor is forced to confront his own suppressed desires and insecurities after this revelation disrupts the apparent stability of his marriage. As doubt and obsession take hold, a single night leads him away from his familiar world and into a shadowy realm where temptation, secrecy, and danger intertwine.

Drawn deeper into the unknown, he becomes entangled with a clandestine society and gains access to a disturbing masked ritual that exposes the hidden undercurrents of power, sexuality, and control beneath the city’s polished surface. Starring Nicole Kidman and directed by Stanley Kubrick, the film transposes the story from its original early twentieth-century European setting to 1990s New York City, transforming it into a haunting exploration of marriage, fidelity, and the fragile boundaries between fantasy and reality.
