Story Overview

Set against the brutal backdrop of the Sierra Leone civil war in the 1990s, Blood Diamond follows the intersecting destinies of two men bound by violence, survival, and a shared geography. A former mercenary turned diamond smuggler (Leonardo DiCaprio) crosses paths with a Mende fisherman (Djimon Hounsou), whose life has been shattered by rebel forces tearing through the countryside.

Though their pasts and moral compasses differ sharply, the chaos of war draws them into a perilous alliance. Their journey revolves around two dangerous objectives: securing a rare and immensely valuable pink diamond, and rescuing the fisherman’s young son, who has been forcibly taken and turned into a child soldier by insurgent militias.
