He grew up in an environment deeply influenced by American culture and country music, encouraged by a family that admired the genre. Among the musicians who influenced him most were Charley Pride, country music legend Dolly Parton, Don Williams, and Jim Reeves.

Keith Urban was introduced to music at an early age. At four years old, he began playing the ukulele, a four-stringed instrument similar to a guitar. Two years later, at the age of six, he received his first guitar as a gift from his family, marking the beginning of a lifelong musical journey. By the age of seven, he had already decided that he would one day pursue a country music career in Nashville, United States.

From the age of eight onward, Keith Urban appeared on various country music television programs and performed at local events, including the Caboolture festivals. His early exposure to live performance helped him develop both confidence and technical skill. In 1991, he released his first album in Australia under the title Keith Urban.

In 1992, Keith Urban relocated to the United States and settled in Nashville, Tennessee, the heart of country music. Through small concerts and studio sessions, he saved enough money to support himself while building industry connections. He eventually signed a new recording contract with EMI’s Capitol Records. Under this partnership, he released three solo albums that were distributed in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

His international recognition peaked in 2006 when Keith Urban performed at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and won a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for the song You'll Think of Me. The award solidified his status as one of the most successful country artists of his generation.

On June 25, 2006, Keith Urban married film actress Nicole Kidman. The couple welcomed their first daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, born on July 7, 2008. Their second daughter, Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, was born on December 28, 2010, via gestational surrogate.
