Plot Summary

Underwater is a tense deep-sea survival thriller directed by William Eubank and written by Brian Duffield. Set in the crushing darkness of the ocean floor, the film explores isolation, fear, and the fragility of human life when confronted with the unknown.

Following a catastrophic earthquake, a team of underwater researchers stationed in a remote deep-sea drilling facility find themselves trapped miles beneath the ocean’s surface. With their laboratory severely damaged and communication systems destroyed, survival becomes their only objective. Among them is mechanical engineer Norah Price, portrayed by Kristen Stewart, who must navigate the collapsing structure and the overwhelming pressure of the abyss while leading the remaining crew toward a distant escape point.

As the survivors attempt a perilous trek across the ocean floor, they soon realize that the disaster may have awakened something far more terrifying than structural failure. The dark waters conceal an ancient and hostile presence, turning their escape mission into a desperate fight against both environmental and existential threats. The ensemble cast, including T.J. Miller, Jessica Henwick, Vincent Cassel, and John Gallagher Jr., delivers performances that heighten the claustrophobic intensity and psychological strain of the narrative.

Blending science fiction with creature horror elements, Underwater crafts a relentless atmosphere driven by stark visuals, industrial sound design, and the suffocating vastness of the deep sea. The film offers a modern homage to classic underwater and cosmic horror while grounding its suspense in raw human endurance and sacrifice.
