Story Overview

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King brings the monumental journey across middle earth to its dramatic conclusion as the fate of the world hangs in the balance. With darkness spreading across the lands, the forces of good must unite for a final stand against the rising power of evil.

Guided by the treacherous Gollum (Andy Serkis), the Ring-bearer Frodo (Elijah Wood) and his loyal companion Sam (Sean Astin) continue their perilous journey toward Mordor. Their mission is to reach the fires of Mount Doom and destroy the One Ring before it falls permanently into the hands of the Dark Lord.

Meanwhile, the remaining members of the Fellowship prepare for the greatest battle of their lives. Gandalf, Aragorn and their allies march to defend the kingdom of Gondor, rallying the Riders of Rohan and other free peoples of Middle-earth. As armies clash and hope grows fragile, the courage of a few small heroes may determine the destiny of the entire world.
