T2: Trainspotting 2 (2017)
Official Trailer
Plot Summary
Twenty years after betraying his friends and disappearing with the money they had earned together, Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to Edinburgh from his long-term exile in Amsterdam. Struggling with health issues and a lingering sense of displacement, Renton finds himself confronting a past he never truly escaped.
Back home, he reunites with Simon, now running a bar while surviving on small-time schemes, and Spud, who has never fully overcome his heroin addiction and is teetering on the edge of despair. While each reacts differently to Renton’s return, old wounds quickly resurface, exposing unresolved resentment, guilt, and fractured loyalty.
The fragile balance is shattered with the reappearance of Begbie, newly released after spending two decades in prison. His return reignites long-suppressed violence and rage, forcing the group to confront the consequences of their shared history and the people they have become.
Adapted from Irvine Welsh’s novel Porno, T2 Trainspotting functions as a direct continuation of Trainspotting, revisiting its iconic characters with a darker, more reflective tone. The film explores aging, regret, and the haunting persistence of youth, offering a raw meditation on time, memory, and the impossibility of truly moving on.
