Regression (2015)
Official Trailer
Plot Summary
Set in 1990s Minnesota, Regression centers on a disturbing accusation that shakes a quiet community. A father, John Gray (Ethan Hawke), is accused of sexually abusing his teenage daughter. Strikingly, John claims to have no memory of committing the crime, yet he chooses to accept the charges without resistance, plunging both his family and the town into confusion and moral panic.
Assigned to the case, psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) attempts to help John recover his suppressed memories through controversial therapeutic techniques. As fragmented recollections begin to surface, John slowly pieces together a far more complex version of events, one that suggests the involvement of a police officer and raises unsettling questions about manipulation, memory, and guilt.
As the investigation deepens, the case spirals beyond the confines of a single family tragedy. Local media outlets fuel public hysteria by speculating about the possible existence of a satanic cult operating behind the scenes. With reality, fear, and suggestion increasingly difficult to separate, Regression explores the fragility of memory and the destructive power of mass paranoia in a society desperate for clear answers.
