Story Overview

Oblivion is set in a distant future where Earth has been devastated by a catastrophic war, leaving the planet abandoned and uninhabitable for humanity. Jack Harper, an experienced soldier portrayed by Tom Cruise, is sent back to the ruins of the world once known as Earth under the command of a strict military authority. His mission is to study how humanity lived before the great collapse and to determine whether any form of life still survives on the planet. However, Jack soon discovers that Earth is not as empty as it appears, as hostile alien entities continue to occupy and exploit its remains.

As Jack carries out his assignment, he is confronted with a series of unexpected events that begin to challenge everything he believes to be true. Encounters with mysterious individuals and unexplained phenomena force him to question both his past and the system he serves. With each revelation, fragments of hidden memories surface, and the reality Jack has accepted starts to unravel, leading him toward a truth far more complex and unsettling than he imagined.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski and adapted from his own graphic novel, Oblivion presents a visually striking post-apocalyptic world infused with action, science fiction, and mystery. Alongside Tom Cruise, the film features performances by Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nicolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo, and Morgan Freeman. At its core, the story explores themes of humanity, memory, identity, and the fragile nature of reality in a world shaped by loss and deception.
