Hercules (2014)

Official Trailer

Plot Summary

Adapted from a graphic novel and featuring an international cast, Hercules presents a bold reimagining of the legendary hero in a grounded, realistic world stripped of overt supernatural elements. Haunted by a violent past and personal loss, Hercules (Dwayne Johnson) has turned his back on myth and destiny, choosing instead the life of a hardened mercenary.

Accompanied by five fiercely loyal warriors, Hercules travels across ancient Greece, selling his unmatched combat skills for gold and survival. Together, they rely not on divine intervention but on strategy, brute force, and battlefield experience, carving a reputation as an unstoppable fighting unit.

Their journey takes a decisive turn when they are summoned by the ruler of Thrace, King Cotys (John Hurt), and his daughter Ergenia (Rebecca Ferguson). Faced with the threat of a terrifying warlord said to possess godlike power, Hercules is forced to confront the legend he has long denied. To stand against this seemingly inhuman enemy, he must once again embrace the myth surrounding his name and become the warrior the world believes him to be.

Directed by Brett Ratner, the film explores the fine line between man and myth, questioning whether legends are born from divine power or forged through courage, sacrifice, and belief. Blending large-scale battle sequences with a character-driven approach, Hercules offers a grounded yet epic take on one of antiquity’s most enduring heroes.
