Story Overview

Dick Tracy is set in 1930s Chicago and tells the story of a hard-boiled detective with a soft heart and his relentless fight against organized crime.

Dick Tracy (Warren Beatty) is a tough, sharp-minded detective determined to clean up the crime-ridden streets of Chicago. Alongside a streetwise and adventurous young boy, Tracy wages a personal war against the city’s most powerful gangsters, beginning with the ruthless crime boss Big Boy Caprice.

Big Boy Caprice (Al Pacino) violently seizes control of a nightclub run by rival gangster Lips Manlis (Paul Sorvino), eliminating his competition and claiming the club’s alluring singer, Breathless Mahoney (Madonna), for himself. Mahoney, caught in the middle of the escalating gang war, becomes a dangerous wildcard.

As Dick Tracy closes in on the criminal empire, Breathless Mahoney attempts to manipulate the detective and draw him to her side, blurring the line between duty and desire. Blending stylized visuals, comic-book aesthetics, and classic noir themes, Dick Tracy delivers a vivid tale of crime, corruption, and moral conflict in the shadowy underworld of 1930s America.
