A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Official Trailer

Plot Summary

In a dystopian and undefined future, society has normalized extreme violence, where crime becomes a form of entertainment for disillusioned youth. Among them is Alex (Malcolm McDowell), a charismatic yet dangerously unrestrained delinquent who indulges in acts of brutality, theft, and psychological manipulation alongside his gang.

However, after being betrayed by his own companions during a criminal act, Alex is arrested and imprisoned. Desperate to regain his freedom, he volunteers for an experimental government rehabilitation program designed to eliminate criminal tendencies. The treatment, while seemingly effective, strips him of his ability to choose between good and evil—raising profound ethical questions about free will and state control.

Directed and adapted by Stanley Kubrick from Anthony Burgess’s novel, A Clockwork Orange stands as a provocative exploration of morality, individual autonomy, and the limits of psychological conditioning. With its striking visual style, unsettling tone, and philosophical depth, the film remains one of cinema’s most controversial and thought-provoking works.
