Emmanuel Macron is a French politician who serves as the President of France. He was born on December 21, 1977, in Amiens, France. His full name is Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron. His father is a neurologist and his mother is a pediatrician. He has an older brother who is two years his senior and a younger sister who is five years younger. During his childhood, Macron received piano lessons and completed ten years of piano education at the Amiens Conservatory.



Emmanuel Macron received his early education in schools run by Jesuit and Catholic institutions. He later moved to Paris with his older brother, where he completed his high school and university education. He studied at Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense University and obtained a degree in political science from the Institute of Political Studies. He graduated from Sciences Po in 2001 and continued his education at the National School of Administration (ENA) between 2002 and 2004.

After graduating from ENA in 2004, Emmanuel Macron became a financial inspector. During this period, his path crossed with economist and writer Jacques Attali, who had been regarded since the 1980s as a behind-the-scenes power in French politics. Attali, who was preparing an economic reform package for then-President Nicolas Sarkozy, appointed Macron as his assistant. Following his collaboration with Attali, often described as the “mentor” of the French state, Macron resigned from public service and transitioned to the private sector.

Emmanuel Macron joined Rothschild & Cie in 2008, where he worked as an investment banker. In 2007, he married Brigitte Trogneux.

Macron began his political activism within the Citizens’ Movement (MDC) and joined the Socialist Party in 2001, where he remained active between 2006 and 2009. From 2006 onward, he worked at the Jean Jaurès Foundation and, through Jean-Pierre Jouyet, was introduced to François Hollande. From 2010, he became one of Hollande’s close associates.

On May 15, 2012, after François Hollande was elected President of France, Emmanuel Macron was appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the Presidency. He left this position in July 2014, effective August 30, 2014. He later served as Minister of the Economy, Industry, and Digital Affairs in the second Manuel Valls government from August 24, 2014, to August 30, 2016.

In April 2016, Emmanuel Macron founded the En Marche movement, named after his initials. In August of the same year, he resigned from his ministerial post and announced his independent candidacy for the French presidency.

Emmanuel Macron ran in the French presidential elections held on April 23 and May 7, 2017. Following the first round on April 23, he advanced to the second round against Marine Le Pen. On May 7, 2017, he won the second round and was elected President of France, becoming the eighth president of the Fifth French Republic.

In the presidential elections held on April 10, 2022, Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen once again advanced to the second round. On April 24, 2022, Macron secured 58 percent of the vote and was re-elected as President of France, continuing his leadership for a second term.
