Story Overview

As heroin use spreads rapidly, crime in New York reaches uncontrollable levels. Bound by restrictive laws, the police are increasingly unable to carry out their duties effectively, leaving the city trapped in a losing battle against organized crime.

Bobby Green (Joaquin Phoenix), the manager of a nightclub owned by the Russian mafia, lives a morally reckless life while trying to keep his distance from the escalating violence.
