Story Overview

Poor Things tells the striking story of a young woman brought back to life through an extraordinary experiment. Bella is resurrected after a tragic death by the brilliant yet highly unconventional scientist Godwin Baxter. By replacing Bella’s brain with that of an infant, Baxter creates a unique being—physically an adult, yet mentally at the very beginning of human development.

Under Dr. Baxter’s protection, Bella re-enters the world with a completely unfiltered perspective. She begins to explore her surroundings, emotions, and human relationships free from prejudice or social conditioning. Her boundless curiosity, desire for freedom, and relentless urge to learn push her beyond the safety of her sheltered existence. For Bella, experiencing life for the first time is both bewildering and deeply enchanting.

During this journey, Bella crosses paths with the sharp-witted but morally flexible lawyer Duncan Wedderburn. Their encounter propels her into a whirlwind adventure across continents, filled with passion, discovery, and chaos. This wild odyssey ultimately leads Bella not only to redefine the world around her, but also to reclaim her own identity, autonomy, and sense of self.
