Hakan Çalhanoğlu is a Turkish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Italian club Inter Milan and the Turkey national football team. He is widely recognized for his powerful and accurate free kicks, long-range shooting, and playmaking abilities.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu was born on February 8, 1994, in Mannheim, Germany. He is of Turkish origin, with his family roots in Bayburt. His father is Hüseyin Çalhanoğlu and his mother is Naime Çalhanoğlu. He has a brother named Muhammed Çalhanoğlu. He began playing football at a very young age in the youth academy of Waldhof Mannheim.

In 2009, Hakan Çalhanoğlu moved to the youth system of Karlsruher. By 2011, at the age of 17, he started training with Karlsruher’s first team. He made his first appearance with the senior squad in a friendly match in November 2011, and on February 5, 2012, he played his first official league match.

On August 14, 2012, Hakan Çalhanoğlu transferred to Hamburg, but continued to play for Karlsruher on loan. At the end of the season, he scored 17 goals, finishing fourth in the league’s top scorer rankings. Karlsruher were promoted to the 2. Bundesliga, and Çalhanoğlu was selected as the best Third Division player of the year.

In the 2013–2014 season, Hakan Çalhanoğlu officially joined Hamburg. On August 31, 2013, he came on as a substitute in the 79th minute against Eintracht Braunschweig and scored his first Bundesliga goal just one minute later. He added another goal from a free kick in the 90th minute, delivering a remarkable performance.

On July 4, 2014, Hakan Çalhanoğlu signed a five-year contract with Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer fee of 14.5 million euros. His free-kick goals attracted attention from major clubs, and according to the newspaper Bild, he was listed among the top ten free-kick specialists in Bundesliga history.

On March 31, 2015, Hakan Çalhanoğlu scored the winning goal in the 87th minute of a friendly match against Luxembourg, which ended in a 2–1 victory for Turkey national football team.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu was selected by Fatih Terim for the final squad of the Turkish national team for EURO 2016.

At the age of 16, Hakan Çalhanoğlu had signed a contract with Trabzonspor before later transferring to Hamburg. Trabzonspor filed a complaint with FIFA regarding this transfer. FIFA’s decision in 2016 was upheld by CAS on February 3, 2017, resulting in a four-month suspension for the player.

In 2017, Hakan Çalhanoğlu married Sinem Gündoğdu. He is the father of three children named Liya, Ayaz, and Asil Can.

On July 2, 2017, Hakan Çalhanoğlu signed a four-year contract with Milan. On June 21, 2021, he transferred to Inter Milan on a three-year deal, and on July 5, 2023, he extended his contract until June 30, 2027.
