Plot Summary

Set in the vast and perilous world of Middle-earth, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers continues the epic journey of the Fellowship as it is divided into multiple paths, each facing its own trials and destiny.

Lost in the barren hills of Emyn Muil, Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) struggle to find their way to Mordor when they discover they are being followed by the mysterious creature Gollum (Andy Serkis). Once a Hobbit himself, Gollum has been twisted by the corrupting power of the Ring over centuries. Captured by the Hobbits, he agrees to guide them to the Black Gates of Mordor in exchange for his freedom. While Sam remains deeply suspicious, Frodo begins to empathize with Gollum, recognizing a reflection of his own burden within the creature.

Elsewhere, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), the Elf archer Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and the dwarf Gimli (John-Rhys Davies) arrive in the embattled Kingdom of Rohan. The once-great King Theoden (Bernard Hill) has fallen under the sinister influence of Saruman through his manipulative agent Wormtongue (Brad Dourif). As darkness spreads, Theoden’s niece Eowyn (Miranda Otto) becomes inspired by Aragorn’s quiet strength and leadership. Though drawn to her, Aragorn remains bound to his love for the Elf Arwen (Liv Tyler) and the promise they share.

As the war for Middle-earth intensifies, the members of the Fellowship confront massive armies, ancient powers, and unimaginable dangers. Their separate journeys are united by a common purpose: to resist the growing shadow and protect what remains of hope. Through courage, loyalty, and sacrifice, they are pushed to their limits in a battle that will shape the fate of the world.
