Official Trailer

Plot Summary

Elizabeth: The Golden Age centers on Queen Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett), who faces the most dangerous period of her reign as her authority and life are threatened from multiple fronts. Her Catholic cousin, Mary Stuart (Samantha Morton), Queen of Scotland, conspires with King Philip of Spain (Jordi Mollà) in a calculated effort to overthrow Elizabeth and claim the English throne.

Standing between the Queen and the many plots designed to destroy her is her loyal spymaster Sir Francis Walsingham (Geoffrey Rush), who wages a relentless and merciless war against assassins, traitors, and foreign enemies. Through intelligence, sacrifice, and ruthless precision, Walsingham becomes the unseen shield protecting the English crown.

As England prepares for inevitable war to defend its empire, Elizabeth finds herself torn between duty and desire. Her growing passion for the daring and charismatic explorer Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen) challenges her carefully constructed emotional armor, forcing her to confront the personal cost of absolute power.

Written by Michael Hirst and William Nicholson, Elizabeth: The Golden Age vividly portrays a woman’s struggle to master love, crush her enemies, and secure her place in history. Against a backdrop of political intrigue, religious conflict, and imperial ambition, the film recreates one of the most pivotal eras in English and world history with grandeur and emotional intensity.
