Plot Summary

An exceptionally dedicated and highly professional lifeguard, Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson), leads an elite team of beach rescuers who take their responsibility to protect the shoreline very seriously. Trouble arises when former Olympic champion swimmer Matt Brody (Zac Efron) joins the team, and the two clash almost immediately due to their opposing attitudes and egos.

Things take a darker turn when ownership of the beach changes hands and falls under the control of Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra). Soon after, the once-idyllic coastline becomes plagued by drug trafficking and mysterious murders. Determined to restore order, Mitch sets aside his differences with Matt and pushes beyond the limits of his authority, taking on a dangerous criminal gang and waging a battle that feels far more like police work than lifeguarding.
