Tim Cook is an American business executive best known as the Chief Executive Officer of Apple Inc. He was born on November 1, 1960, in Mobile, Alabama, United States. Cook graduated from Robertsdale High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University in 1982. He later completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Administration in 1988 at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.



After completing his education, Tim Cook began his professional career at Integrated Electronics, where he served as Chief Operating Officer (COO). He later worked at Compaq as Vice President in charge of Corporate Materials. Prior to joining Apple, Cook spent 12 years at IBM, where he served as Director of North American Fulfillment for the company’s Personal Computer division.

Cook attracted the attention of Steve Jobs and Apple Inc. through his ability to generate millions of dollars in savings via operational efficiency and innovative retail strategies. As a result, he received a transfer offer from Apple and officially joined the company in March 1998.

At Apple, Tim Cook initially served as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations. In 2004, during Steve Jobs’s pancreatic surgery, Cook assumed the role of interim CEO for two months. He was promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2007.

In 2009, when Steve Jobs underwent a liver transplant, Cook once again served as interim CEO for several months. In January 2011, Jobs requested his third medical leave, and Cook stepped in as CEO once more, although Jobs did not completely withdraw from company affairs during this period.

On August 25, 2011, at Steve Jobs’s own request, Tim Cook was officially appointed Chief Executive Officer of Apple Inc.. Following Jobs’s resignation from the CEO position due to health issues on August 24, 2011, Cook became Apple’s permanent CEO, a role he has held ever since. He has been with Apple continuously since March 1998.

In addition to his responsibilities at Apple, Tim Cook also serves on the board of directors of Nike. On October 30, 2014, Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly announced that he is gay and stated that he is proud to be gay.
