Oscar Piastri is an Australian racing driver who competes at the highest level of motorsport and represents Australia on the global Formula 1 stage.

Oscar Piastri was born on April 6, 2001, in Melbourne, Australia, as the son of Chris Piastri and Nicole Piastri. His full name is Oscar Jack Piastri. He grew up in the suburb of Brighton and received his education at Haileybury College Melbourne, followed by Haileybury and Imperial Service College in England, where he studied as a boarding student on a sports scholarship. He is a passionate supporter of the Richmond Tigers football club and follows the Australian national cricket team. After asking for recommendations on his X profile, he also began following the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

Before beginning his karting career in 2011, Oscar Piastri competed at national level in remote-controlled car racing. In 2014, he turned professional and competed in various Australian racing events and championships. The following year, he joined Ricky Flynn Motorsport and raced in European and other CIK-FIA–sanctioned karting championships.

In 2016, Oscar Piastri moved to the United Kingdom to further his racing career. That same year, he finished sixth at the 2016 World Championship held in Bahrain, continuing his steady progression through the junior racing ranks.

Oscar Piastri achieved remarkable success in single-seater racing by winning the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019, the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2020, and the FIA Formula 2 Drivers’ Championship in 2021 with Prema Racing.

In January 2020, Oscar Piastri joined the Renault Sport Academy. After winning the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship, he was rewarded by the Renault Formula 1 Team with a young driver test in Bahrain on October 31, 2020, alongside academy driver Christian Lundgaard. During the 2021 season, he became a member of the rebranded Alpine Academy, alongside Guanyu Zhou, Christian Lundgaard, Victor Martins, and Caio Collet.

In the 2023 Formula 1 season, Oscar Piastri completed his rookie campaign, finishing ninth in the championship standings with 97 points, behind George Russell. He signed a new three-year contract with McLaren and concluded the season with two podium finishes, two fastest laps, and a victory in the 2023 Qatar Sprint race.

Oscar Piastri achieved the first podium of his Formula 1 career at the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix. His contract with McLaren runs until the 2026 season.

Oscar Piastri claimed his first Formula 1 race victory at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, marking a major milestone in his career.

On September 15, 2024, Oscar Piastri won the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, securing another significant triumph in his Formula 1 journey.
