Joe Biden was born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, United States. His full name is Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr.. His father was Joseph Robinette Biden Sr. and his mother was Catherine Eugenia Finnegan. He has three siblings named Valerie, James Brian, and Francis W.. In 1953, the Biden family moved to Claymont, Delaware. He completed his primary, middle, and high school education in Claymont and graduated in 1961.
In 1965, Joe Biden graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in political science. Shortly after, he completed his law education at Syracuse University Law School and graduated as a lawyer in 1969. He began working at a law firm in Wilmington. In 1972, he was elected to the United States Senate, becoming the sixth-youngest senator in U.S. history.
Joe Biden began his term as a United States Senator from the state of Delaware on January 3, 1973, at the age of 31. He served in this position until January 20, 2009, when he became Vice President of the United States. During a significant portion of his Senate career, he was a member and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
In 1972, Joe Biden experienced a tragic traffic accident in which his first wife and his one-year-old daughter lost their lives. His two sons, Beau and Hunter, survived the accident.
In the 2008 United States presidential elections, Joe Biden announced his candidacy for President from the Democratic Party. However, after failing in the Iowa caucuses held on January 3, 2008, he withdrew from the race. During the same ceremony, Kamala Harris made history by being sworn in as the first female Vice President of the United States.

Joe Biden has been married twice. His first marriage was to Neilia Hunter on August 27, 1966. From this marriage, he had three children: Joseph Robinette "Beau" Biden III (born 1969), R. Hunter Biden (born 1970), and Naomi C. Biden (born 1971 – died 1972). His wife Neilia and daughter Naomi lost their lives in a traffic accident in 1972. On May 30, 2015, his son Joseph Robinette "Beau" Biden III passed away at the age of 46 after losing his battle with brain cancer.
In 1977, Joe Biden married his second wife, Jill Biden (Jacobs). From this marriage, he has one daughter named Ashley B. Biden (born 1981).
