Zavet (2008)
Official Trailer
Plot Summary
Zavet follows the story of a young boy named Tsane (Uroš Milovanović) who lives with his aging grandfather in a small rural village. When the grandfather senses that his time is nearing its end, he sends Tsane on an unusual journey to the city with a list of three promises he must fulfill: sell their family cow, buy a religious icon, and most importantly, return home with a wife.
Arriving in the chaotic city for the first time, Tsane finds himself overwhelmed by unfamiliar streets, eccentric characters, and unpredictable situations. During his adventure he meets Jasna (Marija Petronijević), a spirited young woman trapped in difficult circumstances, and the two form a bond as they attempt to escape the clutches of a local criminal gang.
Directed by Emir Kusturica, the film blends absurd humor, vibrant Balkan music, and surreal storytelling to create a whimsical tale about innocence, love, and the clash between rural traditions and modern urban life. As Tsane struggles to complete his grandfather’s promises, his journey becomes a coming-of-age adventure filled with chaos, romance, and the unmistakable eccentricity characteristic of Kusturica’s cinema.
